Construction work to start on Bishop Stortford’s new link road
The construction of a new road/bus link connecting London Road with Station Road / Dane Street in Bishop Stortford town centre is set to start later this month.
The new connection is one of the many benefits of the Goods Yard regeneration project, next to Bishop’s Stortford station, which started late last year. The £200 million scheme will provide over 500 new homes, a new station square, a hotel, new retail space, offices and transport enhancements.
The work on the new link road will involve a small number of car and motorcycle parking spaces near Anchor Street being relocated to another part of the station car park, although the existing number of spaces will be retained. These changes will be introduced from Saturday 19 January 2019.
Matthew Serginson, Development Director with Solum, said:
“We are making good progress and the scheme is moving forward as planned. The site of the first phase of development has been largely cleared and we will shortly be commencing work on the new link road. Putting in place the infrastructure to support the development from the outset has always been a central part of the delivery plan.
“All efforts are being made to minimise any inconvenience on our neighbours and passengers using the railway station. We will be keeping people informed of the works as the scheme progresses.”
The new link road will be completed later this year, along with a new multi-storey station car park. The first homes are anticipated to be available from late 2020.
